Why I am a Christian

Abstract: The question of why I am a Christian is a difficult one. It’s not difficult to answer because I lack a response, but rather the opposite. It’s difficult to explain why I am a Christian because there are so many reasons. In this paper, I will be presenting the major reasons. This paper will presuppose God exists, but you can consult my other papers on this topic. A common suggestion in our culture is that you cannot rationally be a Christian. I pray this paper will be seen as a decisive refutation of this notion.

The Evidence

When it comes to religion, logic may or may not be where one starts, but it’s certainly not where one should end. Living a Christian life is an act of the whole person— mind and heart— body, soul, and spirit. Precisely because a Christian life involves the whole person, there is a place for the mind, and thus for reason, evidence, and logic. Foundationally, I am a Christian because Christianity is true. I would not be a Christian if I believed Christianity was false. I’m simply persuaded by reason to be a Christian. I find there to be sufficient evidence to convince the impartial, to silence the gainsayer, and to render the atheist and the unbeliever without excuse. This evidence is our duty to attend to and candidly examine. Let’s start with miracles.
